Carpets can be expensive. And because a large-scale item like that will significantly affect how a room looks and feels, choosing one can be intimidating. The right rug may live in your home for decades. The wrong carpet will serve as a daily reminder of the money you wasted — and the money you'll have to spend if you want to replace it. Getting it wrong is all too easy, given the range of available materials, colors, patterns, and sizes. Finding the ideal rug is a "complicated puzzle."

Well, carpets can be a valuable accessory for your rooms if you can choose them by solving that complicated puzzle. Carpets serve a specific purpose, and you should determine that purpose. Carpets can accommodate all desires and needs. Whether you need enhanced durability or softness, classical designs with authentic colors or interpreted colors, or custom-made installations, all this is prevalent within the world of Ararat Rugs.
Here are some valuable tips on choosing a carpet for your living room;
Culture
Not only can you step on them in comfort, but you can also enhance the general outlook of your entire room environment. However, not every carpet will work. Due to their vulnerability, we don't recommend silk rugs for daily usage, but they can nicely decorate your walls, as long as you keep them out of sunlight that causes color fade. It depends on whether the carpet is used with shoes or bare feet because the carpet should be brushed for usage via shoes. If you spend a lot of time on the floor, the rug's softness will make a difference. As Ararat, we have carpets for both styles for this usage.
Material & Durability
Foot traffic is one of the essential criteria. Low pile rugs—with flat weaves created in a loom—are ideal for high-traffic areas since they're easy to vacuum and clean. High pile rugs—with open weaves, like shag—are perfect for a lush and cozy vibe that's soft to the touch but will likely get dirty and lose their volume with lots of foot traffic.
The type of fiber you select for your living room carpet will affect how it looks and how durable it will be. Wool is the preferred option for a living room rug or carpet, not only because it's a natural fiber but also because of its hardwearing qualities and natural springiness, which make it resistant to being compressed by furniture and footsteps. As we mention on our Voyage of Rug, The Materials page about our materials, as Ararat, we strictly stick to using traditional Akkaraman Sheep wool, which has a long staple length, fibers are more robust and have lots of lusters, which means they take up the dye and create brightly colored long-life carpets.
Color & Style
Carpet color is entirely subjective. Even though there is some relevance between color and aesthetics, you will determine what is best for you. However, you can consider the use of the room, the light in the room, the types of furniture, even the color of your pets, etc.
Dark colors make objects appear smaller, and light colors do the opposite, making objects or spaces appear more prominent. Use a light-colored rug to give your room a more expansive look if your space is small. For instance, a large room should have larger patterns, while a smaller room can have small repetitive patterns.
If your walls and furniture are mostly solid colors, use a patterned rug to draw the eyes to the center of the room. Your wall color should be two tones lighter than your carpet. You can also go a few tones lighter with your carpet if you have dark walls. Since it's much easier to change your wall color than your carpet, choose your carpet color first and then match your wall color. All these things will somehow vary your color selection to provide the best possible tint for your environment. Bold colors are fun but get outdated. Warm colors – create an ambiance and comfort. Classical carpet designs and colors have been used for centuries and never go out of style. Our Collection has various color & design options that we work hard to design according to color theories mentioned in our Color Harmony Blog Article.
Size
No rule says you must limit yourself to a single rug in the living room. Designers often use multiple rugs in larger rooms to define different areas. Smaller spaces and living rooms enclosed by walls and doorways usually benefit from a single large rug.
For most average-size rooms, a rug should cover all but approximately 1 to 2 feet of bare floor between its edges and the walls. So that would mean at least a 10-foot square rug size for a 12×12-foot room.
In our Collection, we have small oversized carpets in stock. Also, as we mentioned in our Voyage of Rug section, we can customize any carpet with its authentic pattern or custom designs in any size you require.
Living with Pets
We love pets, and quality of life is essential for both of us, so the natural colors are good for our eyes and them. Research has demonstrated that wool carpets help prevent pet odors. Natural wool carpets absorb moisture and help us live healthier lives without chemical components harmful to our bodies.
Cleaning
As the family most heavily uses the living room, spills and stains are bound to happen. Having a carpet that is easily cleaned is a priority, as it will make your living room relaxed and not filled with angst over keeping the carpet clean.
Now that you have discovered several tips for choosing a carpet, you are well on finding the best possible rug for your space. A carpet that your family and friends and the house itself will enjoy.
