The source of rug comes from the book Antique Rugs of Kurdistan A Historical Legacy of Woven Art, James D. Burns, 2002 nr.42. This is a beautiful urban-produced, later example of the vase design carpets, so called because several of them have large and ornate vases depicted among the huge, stylized, and brilliantly colored palmettes designed 18th-century rug from Sa'luj Bulagh, Eastern Kurdistan area. The main border with palmettes alternating with blooming sprays of flowers is found in a very similar form on early vase carpets. These types of carpets were woven commercially in Eastern Kurdistan in the 18th century and were made to fill the void created by the decline of carpet production throughout Persia in that century. The design of this rug is interpreted by our designers and soft colors are chosen for this rug.
